Terms of Service
Effective date: 2 August 2026
App: Offline Authenticator (com.hugosoftware.authenticator)
Developer: Hugo Software
1. Agreement
By installing or using Offline Authenticator ("the app"), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please uninstall the app.
2. What the app is
The app generates time-based one-time passwords (TOTP, RFC 6238) on your device, so you can complete two-factor authentication on services that support it. It is a calculator for codes. It is not a security service, it does not communicate with the services you use, and it has no relationship with them.
3. Licence
The app is provided free of charge for personal and commercial use. You may not resell it, redistribute modified copies, or reverse engineer it except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits.
4. No account, no fees
There is no user account, no sign-up and no purchase of any kind. The app is free and contains no advertising and no in-app purchases.
5. Your responsibility for your accounts and backups
This is the most important section, so it is written plainly:
- Your two-factor secrets are stored only on your device. We hold no copy. We cannot recover them for you under any circumstances.
- If you lose your device, reset it, or uninstall the app without an up-to-date backup, you will lose the codes for every account you added, and you may be locked out of those accounts.
- If you set a PIN and forget it, your vault cannot be decrypted. If you create a backup and forget its password, that file cannot be decrypted. This is a property of the encryption, not a policy we can waive.
- You are responsible for creating backups and for keeping the recovery codes that the services themselves issue. We strongly recommend keeping both.
6. Accuracy and device clock
TOTP codes depend on the current time. Because the app has no internet access, it cannot correct your device's clock. If your device's clock is wrong, the codes it produces will be rejected. The app provides a diagnostics screen and a manual time correction to help you fix this, but the accuracy of your clock remains your responsibility.
7. No warranty
The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device or with every service that uses two-factor authentication.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Hugo Software shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for any loss of access to accounts, loss of data, or loss of profits, arising out of or in connection with your use of the app. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
9. Changes
We may update these terms when the app changes. The effective date above will change when we do. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised terms.
